ET371 · PID Temperature Control

Experimental Apparatus for the Study of PID Temperature Control

A modular apparatus for the study of temperature control with a PID controller. A PT100 sensor measures the temperature inside a box heated by a lamp, and a converter turns the reading into a 4-20 mA signal. The PID controller answers through its own 4-20 mA output, which drives the thyristor power dimmer that feeds the lamp. Students wire the whole loop themselves with safety leads.
Description
The ET371 is built from panel modules on a tabletop frame. A power supply module gives 24 V DC from the 230 V AC mains. The PID temperature controller module works in self-tuning or manual mode, shows setpoint, input and output on a 4-digit display, takes a 4-20 mA input, gives a 4-20 mA output and has a binary alarm output. A three-wire PT100 temperature sensor module and a PT100 to 4-20 mA signal converter module make up the measuring chain. The single-phase power dimmer module sets the conduction angle of its thyristor from the 4-20 mA control current and feeds the heating unit module, a box with a 60 W lamp at 230 V AC. A 230 V AC indicator module shows the state of the loop.
