Experimental Apparatus for the Study of Pipe Flow Hydrodynamics
The apparatus enables the conduct of fundamental studies in the field of pressurised pipe flow dynamics. The experimental assembly is mounted on a laboratory trolley and operates in a closed circuit. The system is equipped with pressure and flow rate transducers, allowing the acquired data to be processed on a PC. Measurements may be performed on 6 pipe segments and 8 distinct flow elements, including a Venturi tube, a Pitot tube, an orifice plate, and a nozzle.
Experiments
Measurement of dynamic pressure using a Pitot tube
Measurement of the maximum velocity in a pipe using a Pitot tube and a static pressure tap
Verification of the relation for the determination of flow rate or mean velocity from the maximum pipe velocity
Calibration of an orifice plate for flow rate measurement
Calibration of a nozzle for flow rate measurement
Calibration of a Venturi tube for flow rate measurement
Determination of distributed head loss coefficients for various pipe types
Determination of local head loss coefficients for pipe fittings (elbow, bend, enlargement, contraction)
Determination of pressure losses across a valve as a function of its degree of closure
