Experimental Apparatus for the Study of Ventilation Systems
A ventilation system built from industrial ventilation components, with a control unit for room temperature control. Students measure the pressures along the air duct, draw the pressure
curve of the whole system, measure the electric power of the fan and work out the air flow rate. With the control unit and a hot water supply they control the temperature of the air.
Description
The TH780 shows how a ventilation system and its components work. It runs as a pure air supply system. Air enters through a weather louvre with a protective grating and flows through the
components of the system, the multi-leaf damper and the filter. A fan moves the air. Further along the air duct sit typical components, a sound attenuator, an inspection cover, several air
outlets and a fire damper. Sight windows in the air duct show the sound attenuator, the filter, the fan and the multi-leaf damper.
Pressure tappings at the relevant measuring points let students record pressures and differential pressures and draw the pressure curve of the whole system. The components act as local
flow resistances, as they do in real ventilation systems. The system measures the electric drive power of the fan and calculates the air flow rate.
A heat exchanger in the air duct and a control unit that regulates the air temperature let students run experiments with room temperature control. Quick-release couplings connect the
control unit to the ventilation system and to the external hot water source.
