ET531 · Starting of Asynchronous Motors

Experimental Apparatus for the Study of Asynchronous Motor Starting

A self-contained apparatus for the study of the starting methods of a three-phase asynchronous motor. The motor, a powder brake and a tachogenerator sit on a base with wheels next to the electrical cabinet. The student selects the type of start with push-buttons and lamps on the cabinet, and a multifunction measuring unit and a digital speed display show what each method does to the currents, the powers and the run-up of the motor.
Description
The ET531 is an electrical cabinet and its motor group on a frame with wheels, supplied from the 400 V three-phase mains. A set of lamps and push-buttons selects and controls the type of start. A multifunction measuring unit with digital display, wired at the start of the circuit, measures the voltages, the line currents, the total active, reactive and apparent power, the power factor and the total harmonic distortion. A second digital display shows the rotational speed of the motor. Potentiometers on the front of the cabinet set the starter's acceleration time, deceleration time and torque, and two more set the speed and the load of the motor. A contactor and circuit breaker wired upstream of the motor protects it against overload and short circuit, and its built-in display shows the motor current and the thermal protection threshold.
